Jampal Gyepai Dangden is a Great White Stupa to be built in Gelephu Mindfulness City in the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is drawn from the Da Bai Ta of Mount Wutai, set within a mandala of eight Bodhisattva temples, and intended to serve pilgrims, practitioners and visitors of every Buddhist tradition for centuries to come.
The aspiration to build the Stupa arose from three pilgrimages made by Khenpo Karma Namgyal to Mount Wutai, in 2017, 2023 and 2024. Circumambulating the Da Bai Ta and the surrounding sacred peaks, the Khenpo formed the vow to establish a faithful inheritor of that Stupa in a place where it would serve future generations of Bhutanese, Vajrayana practitioners across the world, and pilgrims of every Buddhist school.
The Stupa is designed for use, not for display. Three purposes shape it.
Daily and seasonal pilgrim flows, conducted with dignity, accessible to the elderly and to those with disabilities, and capable of holding large festival assemblies.
Structured retreat and study hosted in association with the Karma Leksheyling Foundation and partner monasteries, with provision for visiting teachers and resident communities.
Programmes for schoolchildren, for visitors with no prior exposure to Vajrayana, and for international pilgrims who require careful introduction.
The Stupa is rooted in the Vajrayana of the Karma Kagyu tradition and remains open to practitioners of every Buddhist school. Its doctrinal architecture, the central Stupa within a mandala of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas, belongs to the shared Mahayana inheritance.
