The Wider Precinct
Beyond the inner mandala, the precinct is planned to hold the facilities a living centre of practice and study requires: places to pray, to learn, to teach, to eat and to stay.
The following facilities are planned. Scope and capacity will be settled through design development and the approval process, and the figures below are current intentions rather than commitments.
Places of Prayer and Assembly
- A principal prayer hall, planned at the largest scale the site will support.
- A Dharma assembly room for group teaching, planned for gatherings of around one thousand.
- A pavilion for the Kagyu Monlam, planned to receive assemblies of around twenty thousand, with associated sanitary and welfare provision at the same scale.
Learning and Preservation
- A library to hold the Kangyur woodblocks and the wider collection.
- Classrooms for resident monks and for lay followers.
The Resident Community
- A dormitory for a minimum of three hundred monks.
- A kitchen and dining hall for the resident community.
- Stores for provisions.
- A residence for the Abbot, with an audience hall able to receive three hundred people at once.
- Residences for assistants.
Visitors and Pilgrims
- A guest house with eight suites and fifty standard rooms for sponsors and visiting guests.
- Sheltered canopies along the pilgrim routes.
- A ground for open gatherings.
- A residence for the Abbot, with an audience hall able to receive three hundred people at once.
- Parking for more than five hundred vehicles.
